The Freedom Alliance is a student organization at UMBC with the purpose of support and advocacy for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, the transgendered, and their allies (GLBTA).

In the early Spring of 2003, I was asked to design for them, an identity system for their many on- and off-campus marketing efforts. They sought a simple look that would become an icon for the group—one that could be easily recognized and understood through it's visibility around campus.

I developed a design from their abbreviation of "FA" while playing off the Mars and Venus symbols (male and female symbols). The triangle in the center is also a universal symbol for GLBTA support, most often used to identify a "safe space." The system of three identifiers—used each in difference types of marketing situations, based on location—consists of four color schemes, which gives the group a flexibility for ease of use in situations where funding may be tight.
